Us officers are now passing the torch on to kathryn, olivia, kitty, and bonnie. go nuts, girls! :P

some points that were brough up that some of the officers may not have heard as they were outside the room when they were spoken:

1) Make it clear to the SHS population that if you didnt go to the first few meetings, it DOESN'T mean you can't go the rest of the year. Anyone can join and leave and make it as formal or as casual as they see fit for themselves.

2) Cut down on intimidation as much as possible. debate topics dont always have to be hugely rich and deep and political. some members mentioned they feel like our topics sometimes scare people away.

3) Get people excited about doing research and preparing themselves for debates, stressing that it would make the debate much for lively if people are prepared with research. maybe even try assigning positions for people sometimes.

and a note of my own: make use of this community! it's a great way to keep everyone on the same page with things (i made it so kathryn, olivia, and kitty are the MODs now) :D

...those are the only ones i can think of right now, but i knwo there were more, and i'm sure colin has some words of wisdom to pass on :D

so Willis wanted me to make an official Debate website. anybody have any suggestions?
so far the plan is to have a calendar section for forensics meetings, list of proposed topics, next week's topic, a forensics "helpful links" section, possibly some kind of message board

here are the results of the SHS participants of last weeks Hall of Fame Tournament. the ranking looks like this: x/yy x/yy x/yy . each set is the first second and thrid rounds, respectively.

x = your rank out of the competitors in your room during that round
yy = your score out of 100.

Nick Connolly: Novice ExTemp. 4/83, 4/88, 5/85

Richard Chazon: Novice Reading. 4/96, 5/88, 3/91

Melanie Holland: Radio Broadcasting. 2/94, 4/84, 6/86

congrats to all :D

You can find the results of the Hall of Fame Tournement here.

You'll see something like this next to your name: x/yy x/yy x/yy x/yy

x is your rank in your room in that round, 1 being the best. yy is your score on a 100pt scale, I believe.

The Oct. 22 debate final list is:

XT: Nick
RB: Melanie
NR: Richard

Entry fee is $5. We have one judge - and ergo, one set of rides to and from our destination. We need at least one other vehicle and a judge. If you're asking somebody to help us, the debate is in Acton, and it is an all day deal. If we don't find a judge, policy is the event we'll have to drop, just so you know.

...is the date for our very first MFL tournament! BE SURE to tell either colin or myself if you'll be going, and what event you plan on doing. if you have any questions, your best bet would be to go to colin, since he probly knwos the most about it.

also, after bedate club ends on tuesday, make sure you stay after for the forensics meeting! only like, 3 kids stayed last time, so we couldnt get anything done. it's not very long, adn it does nothing but benefit you.

Finally, colin will be holding research workshops at the scituate library on sunday (i think, either this sunday or next, im not sure). so go to him if you haev any questions about that.

...means we wont be having debate club. i know, heartbreaking =(

but we'll pick up where we left off with forensics and debate whether we shoudl have "under God" in the pledge of allegiance on the following tuesday. so that gives you all an extra week to come in all nice and prepared :D
